Online Learning with Practical Workshops
We offer a range of Strength & Conditioning courses utilising a ‘Blended Learning’ education process. Interactive lectures are delivered online each week, which you study in your own time, and practical workshops then take place in The SportsLab, Thurles. These take place every 5-6 weeks on our Undergrad programmes, there are 6 practical workshops for our Diploma students, and two one-week workshop blocks for our Performance Science class.
Introducing The SportsLab
LIT’s Thurles Campus houses the elite, state-of-the-art sports strength and conditioning facility, the ‘SportsLab’. Among the facilities in the 2,000 square metre Lab is a 45m, six-lane sprint track specially designed to improve speed; a Paralympic area; cable machines; a range of sport technology systems, Olympic lifting platforms; functional screening kits; power-racks; free weights and a full range of exercise machines.
The SportsLab is one of the finest facilities in the country and greatly enhances the practical learning skills of our Strength and Conditioning students.
Practical Workshops
Our online programmes, supplemented by practical workshops, are designed to produce specialist coaching professionals capable of working in S&C, health and fitness and physical activity related fields. The workshops give our students the opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches in the industry and ensure they have the skills to lead long-term sport, health and fitness, physical activity and strength and conditioning programme development.
“The S&C facility at LIT is among the best in the world and a great opportunity for students to gain the skills that will allow them to travel the world.”
Limerick Institute of Technology
LIT and Setanta College’s partnership has been ongoing since 2011. As well as our online programmes, Setanta College provides the content for the LIT full-time Degree and Masters programmes in S&C. These courses are built around two pillars: Coaching and Conditioning and Business and Technology.
Both programmes are delivered at the state of the art Sportslab facility at the LIT Thurles campus which opened in April 2015.
