HETAC Course Details (September 2010)

Details on Setanta College’s BA in Strength & Conditioning (BASC), Higher Certificate in Strength & Conditioning (HCSC) and Physical Fitness & Conditioning for Sport (PFCS) courses:

  • Induction Workshop = Saturday 28th August (Tipperary IT, Thurles at 09:30)
  • Opening week of lectures = Wednesday 1st September
  • Closing date for applications = Friday 10th September

Physical Fitness & Conditioning for Sport

Setanta College is pleased to announce that from Sept 1st 2010 they will be delivering a new  version of Physical Fitness & Conditioning for Sport certificate. This course will have 6 very exciting modules - each of which will last for 3 months. Successful students will be awarded a HETAC Certificate and 60 Study Credits or may transfer to the  Higher Certificate in Strength & Conditioning (additional 6 modules) and/or BA  in Strength and Conditioning (additional 6 modules).

Setanta College wishes to announce that HETAC has awarded the College a BA in Strength and Conditioning. This course will run over 18 modules and start in September 2010. Each module will last 3 months. Initial information is available in the following 3 documents for new students and also for our PFCS graduates. Higher Certificate in Strength and Conditioning

Setanta College is pleased to announce that from Sept 1st 2010 the college will be delivering a new Level 6 Higher Certificate in Strength and Conditioning. This course will have 12 very exciting modules - each of which will last for 3 months. Successful students will be awarded a HETAC Higher Certificate and 120 Study Credits. They may then transfer to the BA  in Strength and Conditioning where the completion of a further 6 Modules will lead to degree status.

2nd Annual Multi-Sports Coaching Conference

Participants who attended the Multi-Sport Conference (June 12th) should be receiveing an email between July 1st and 7th with username, password and enrolment key to access the Conference Lectures. We publish the Overheads used by the speakers from July 1st to July 31st. Others who wish to view the overheads can purchase the content through our online shop (above) for a cost of €20.00 from July 1st.

INTO Summer Course for Primary School Teachers (on-line)

In co-operation with the INTO, Setanta College is delivering a course for Primary School Teachers this summer.

Course Title: Physical Activity and Movement Skill Development for the Primary School Child

Course Type: Fully online

Course Approval: The course is approved by the Department for 3 Special Leave Days.   The course is administered by the INTO from their website but designed and delivered by Setanta College

Course Fee: €80 and payable to the INTO

The course will address:

– physical growth and movement development 
– posture and its impact on functional movement in primary school children
– the impact of functional limitations on movement in general and on recreation and sport

The course will provide the teacher with simple posture and movement assessment skills. These skills will lead to an awareness of the limitations in movement common in many primary school children. In addition, methods to improve the movement limitations will be presented.

This course will be of immense benefit to teachers who teach PE, coach sports or encourage recreational activity as parents.

New Version of PFCS & RTWTS Courses Start-up is 1st September

NB: Those who are currently enrolled in the PFCS or RTWTS are not affected by these changes

Diploma in Club Team Fitness & Conditioning (DCTC)

This exciting fully online course re-starts on Wednesday 28th July 2010 with the latest possible signing up date as Friday 30th July. This course is made up of 5 mini-courses each lasting 10 weeks and costing €100 each. Students enrol for one course at a time. However students may undertake 2 courses at the same time.

Week 1 which starts 28th July and contains mainly course information such as aims and objectives, topics and student information. The first set of actual lectures appear on Wed 4th August from 09.00. All lectures once they appear remain live for the full duration of the course.

The topics for the 5 courses are: 

  • Stamina Training for Team Sports
  • Speed Training for Team Sports
  • Flexibility Training, Nutrition, Programme Management and Recovery Training
  • Functional Screening & Fitness Testing for Team Sports
  • Resistance Training for Team Sports
