are accredited by HETAC (Higher Education Training and Awards Council).

Who are HETAC?

  • HETAC was established on 11 June 2001, under the Irish Government’s Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999
  • HETAC is the qualifications awarding body for third-level educational and training institutions outside the university sector
  • It is the successor to the National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA)
  • HETAC awards qualifications at all levels of higher education and training up to PhD level

What are HETAC’s main functions?

  • Setting standards for higher education and training awards
  • Validation of higher education and training programmes
  • Monitoring of institutional quality assurance procedures
  • Delegation of awarding powers to recognised institutions
  • Ensuring that student assessment procedures are fair and consistent
  • Ensuring that arrangements are in place in commercial education and training institutions to protect learners where programmes validated by HETAC cease to be provided

Who approves this course?

  • HETAC has approved the validation of the course: Special Purposes Award Certificate in Physical Fitness & Conditioning for Sport.
  • HETAC has set and will monitor the standards for this programme/course
  • HETAC is also charged with ensuring that student assessment procedures within Setanta College are fair and consistent and meet the required educational standards
  • HETAC ensures academic and financial protection for students in commercial educational institutions providing programmes validated by it

What does Level 6 & Level & mean?
HETAC has approved the validation of our Higher Certificate in Strength & Conditioning as a Level 6 award
HETAC has approved the validation of our Bachelor of Arts in Strength & Conditioning as a Level 7 award

The following are the levels of educational awards at 3rd Level in Ireland today.

  • Level 10 - Doctorate PhD
  • Level 9 - Masters Degree or Post Graduate Diploma
  • Level 8 - Honours Degree or Higher Diploma
  • Level 7 - Basic Degree
  • Level 6 - Advanced or Higher Certificate

Is there any international dimension to the course being offered?
HETAC is an approved qualifications awarding body by the European Union.
All accreditation points are accepted throughout the European Union. Therefore the Certificate will be recognised internationally.

From 2005, HETAC graduates will receive a copy of their Certificate Supplement along with their parchment, which will make the process of award identification outside Ireland even easier. It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued, and successfully completed by the student named on the parchment associated with the Certificate Supplement.
